CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – For the fifth time in the 2024 season, senior defensive specialist and libero Hunter Haas has won the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Defensive Player of the Week award. It is the third straight week that the Trine University men's volleyball team has had a representative win the defensive award from the conference.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native helped lead the Thunder to a 1-1 week. Trine dropped the opening match of the weekend to Wittenberg University in five sets, but won the final regular season match of the year against Mount St. Joseph University, 3-1.
Haas had 18 digs from the back row in each match – a mark that is tied for the second-most in a match this season. He had a match with 19 digs earlier this season versus Aurora University. Against Wittenberg, Haas had a season-high 36 reception opportunities and converted every one. He would add 26 more against the Lions in the Saturday match to give him 62 successful receptions without an error. Haas added seven assists in total for the weekend as well.
The postseason begins for the Thunder on Friday, April 12 against Baldwin Wallace University at 4 p.m. The MCVL Semifinal contest will take place on a neutral floor at Wittenberg, the league's regular season champion.
