NEW ORLEANS -- The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced their week one NCAA Division III Cross Country Regional Rankings for the 2021 season and the Trine University men's cross country team finds themselves ninth in the Great Lakes.
The Thunder were picked eighth during the preseason edition of the regional rankings. Also featured this week was fellow Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) member Calvin University who took over the top spot. John Carrol University and Otterbein College rounded out the top-three.
Trine's lone competition of the season so far was at the Manchester Hokum Karem, a partner relay styel event, where no team score was awarded. Eli Lantz [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Churubusco] and Blane Johnson [Allegan, Mich. / Allegan Senior] led the way for the team at the event. The freshmen duo crossed the line sixth with a time of 40:51.8. Pairs from the team took spots 6-13 on the leaderboard, showcasing great depth in the program.
The Thunder are set to compete again this Friday, Sept. 17 when they travel to the Mount St. Joseph Invitational which will take place at the Blue River Cross Country Course in Shelbyville, Ind.
