FREELAND, Mich. – The Trine University softball team swept the final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Softball Athlete of the Week honors with sophomore Adrienne Rosey (Schoolcraft, Mich. / Schoolcraft) and junior Ellie Trine (Kokomo, Ind. / Kokomo) each taking home an award.
This is the third time this season that Rosey has been named Pitcher of the Week and the second time that Ellie Trine has been named Position Player of the Week. They are the sixth and seventh student-athletes to win athlete of the week honors for the team.
Rosey pitched a pair of games during the tournament and posted shutout performances in both starts. First, in the team's opening game, she pitched seven innings against Alma College allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out seven. It was a clutch performance that secured a 1-0 victory.
Then on the final day of the tournament she turned in another seven innings of work allowing just four hits while striking out 13 as the team secured a spot in the championship game with a 5-0 win over Calvin University.
Ellie Trine would help secure the tournament championship with excellent play in the field and at the plate. She finished the week with a .500 batting average, a .636 on-base percentage and a .625 slugging percentage. She had four hits including one double and drew a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. In the field she turned in solid play from centerfield and also recorded the final out of the championship game securing the win for the team.
The Thunder found out today that they will be hosting the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Softball Championship Tournament. The regional bracket is set to start on Friday, May 13 at 2 p.m. with Trine set to take the field against Wisconsin-Eau Claire at 4:30 p.m. For more information on the Angola, Ind.
