LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the second week in a row, the Trine University softball team advanced one spot in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III top 25 Coaches Poll, moving back into the top-five after a two-week absence.
The top four sports remained unchanged from last week's edition of the poll. Salisbury University remains top-ranked with Berry College, Case Western Reserve University and Linfield University falling in step behind. Texas Lutheran University fell to eighth to set up the return of the Thunder, with Tufts University and Christopher Newport University taking the sixth and seventh sports.
Trine secured their 12th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship with a sweep of Kalamazoo College. Freshman Karley Trine led the way offensively for the pair of games finishing the day with seven RBIs on four hits including a pair of doubles. In the circle, Debbie Hill and Alexis Michon combined for the first game's shutout, while in the second senior Anna Koeppl recorded her 13th win of the season.
The team finished the regular season with a conference best 15-1 record while improving to 32-4 overall. They will play host to the upcoming MIAA Softball Tournament beginning on Thursday, May 11. The Thunder open the event with a game against Adrian College at 11 a.m.
