HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Trine University softball team saw Debbie Hill be named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Position Player of the Week for her performance at the Pioneer Classic. The New Whiteland, Indiana native helped the team to a perfect 4-0 record at the event with a win over nationally-ranked Transylvania University.
For Hill, it is her second consecutive Athlete of the Week award from the conference after earning MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors on March 11. It is her sixth career conference award and third time winning the Position Player of the Week award.
In four games at the plate, Hill had at least one hit, one run scored and one RBI in each contest. She concluded the event with a homerun in each of the team's final three games and went 4-for-8 with seven runs, eight RBIs and five walks in total.
Along with her work at the dish, Hill also pitched seven innings, including a win over DePauw University. That victory saw Hill go 5.0 innings and allowed three hits and one run with five strikeouts. Two unearned runs came around to score when Hill was in the circle in the weekend's first game against Wartburg University, but she would add two strikeouts in her two innings of relief work.
On Friday, March 22, the Thunder play host to Anderson University for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m. It will serve as Trine's home opener at SportONE/Parkview Softball Field.
