HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Debbie Hill has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Position Player of the Week, after leading Trine University to a convincing sweep of Albion College that secured the program its 13th MIAA Championship.
It is the sixth time this season that a member of the Thunder has earned athlete of the week honors and the third time that Hill has received the honors. For her career, the sophomore owns seven weekly honors with four for her play in the field.
Hill exploded offensively against the Britons, finishing the doubleheader with a .800 batting average, a .833 on-base percentage and a 2.800 slugging percentage. She recorded three home runs in the two games along with a double. For the second time this season she had a two-homer inning, this time bookending the third inning of the first game with solo shots.
In addition to her work at the plate, the Whiteland, Indiana native earned the win in the circle during the second game. In her four innings of work, she allowed just two hits while striking out three.
The Thunder won both games in run-rule fashion, the first 12-0 and the second 8-0, securing an outright regular season championship with a 14-2 record. It is the fifth straight championship for Trine.
They will next take the field when they host Adrian College for the opening game of the 2024 MIAA Softball Tournament on Thursday, May 9. That game is scheduled for 11 a.m.
