GENEVA, Ill. -- Freshman forward Grace Hicks (Layton, Utah) picked up the first goal of her career in thrilling fashion, lifting the Trine University women's hockey team to a 3-2 overtime victory over Aurora University.
The Thunder picked up their first goal in the 11th minute of the contest. Freshman Michelle Byker (Gurnee, Ill.) tallied the shot with senior Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) and junior Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.) coming up with assists.
The 1-0 lead would last into the latter portion of the second period when the Spartans evened up the game with a goal of their own.
In the fifth minute of the third period Trine took advantage of a power-play opportunity to pull ahead again. This time Isaacson came up with the goal with sophomore Gabrielle Hicks (Layton, Utah) adding an assist.
The lead lasted until the 13th minute when Aurora tied the game once again this time at two. The draw lasted through the rest of regulation and the teams headed to overtime.
It was then that Grace Hicks came up with the winning goal in just the second minute of the extra period. Senior Emily Moore (London, Ont.) added the assist.
In net, freshman Abbie Bost (Chelsea, Mich.) picked up the win on the back of 35 saves. She improves to 2-2 following the victory.
The Thunder improve to 2-3 following the victory. They will face off with Adrian tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 6 in their first NCHA contest of the season. The game is set to start at 7 p.m.
