TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Trine University women's hockey team will kick off the new year with the program's first outdoor contest as they face off with Adrian College on Sunday, January 2 at 1 p.m.
"Being able to participate in an event like Winterfest is an incredible opportunity for our team," said head coach Tom Hofman, "We are truly excited for our players and are looking forward to the outdoor playing experience. It should be unforgettable."
The contest takes place on the final day of the Toledo Walleye's Winterfest event which begins tomorrow, December 16 and is a part of a doubleheader of NCAA Division III hockey games. Following the women's game at 5 p.m. the Adrian College men's team will face off with MSOE. All Winterfest events will be hosted on the Marathon Outdoor Rink at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio.

This will be the third time the Thunder and Bulldogs have played this season with the first two meetings going to the nationally-ranked Bulldogs. The first meeting, on Friday, Nov. 20, saw the Thunder outpaced by the Adrian offense as they rolled to a 7-1 victory. In the follow up on Saturday, Trine took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission, forcing a comeback from the opposition who would ultimately win 5-2.
This will be the first time that either team has played on an outdoor rink and it is the first time in seven years that the Walleye have hosted Winterfest.
