ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's hockey team fell to visiting Lake Forest College by the score of 5-1, ending the weekend with a pair of losses.
The Foresters came out firing on all cylinders, putting three goals on the board through the first period and taking that 3-0 lead into the first intermission.
Lake Forest added to that lead in the opening minutes of the second period after two quick penalties against the Thunder gave them a 5-on-3 opportunity.
The Thunder finally got on the board in the final minutes of the period. Freshman Kailey Mleko (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) came up with a turnover in the defensive zone and pushed the puck to the neutral zone. The pass was superb setting up a 2-on-1 opportunity for the offense. Senior Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) and Payton Hans (Johnson Creek, Wis.) executed the opportunity perfectly and Wilson finished off the play with the goal.
The Foresters would score the last goal of the game in the opening minutes of the third period and then held on to win 5-1.
Trine falls to 5-15-1 overall and 2-9-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play following the loss. They will face a quick turnaround as they host Finlandia University on Monday, Feb. 14. The 7 p.m. contest is slated to be the team's Pink the Rink.
