DE PERE, Wis. -- The Trine University women's hockey team fell to their hosts from St. Norbert College by the score of 4-0 in the opening contest of the 2022 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Playoffs.
Neither team found any offensive rhythm in the first period combining for just seven shots on goal in the period.
The Green Knights broke the tie in the sixth minute of the second period posting a 1-0 lead that would last into the second intermission.
The third period saw the Thunder post their strongest offensive effort outshooting the opposition and posting 14 shots on goal. But the scoreboard had the opposite trend with St. Norbert scoring three more goals to win the contest 4-0.
Freshman Ryleigh Furlong (Lakeville, Minn.) played the game in net for the team and turned in a solid 20-save night despite recording the loss.
The team will look to rebound and avoid elimination tomorrow, Saturday, February 26 when they will face off with St. Norbert in the second game of the quarterfinal matchup. If the Thunder can secure the victory they would force a mini-game tiebreaker following tomorrows regularly scheduled contest. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET.
