ANGOLA, Ind. – Lillian O'Neal led the way for the Trine University women's lacrosse team as they picked up their sixth win of the season with a lopsided 16-0 victory over visiting Mount St. Joseph University. The freshman scored five goals to lead the game.
The Thunder recorded six goals in the first period to pull away quickly in the contest. Elizabeth Larson led off with just over 12 minutes remaining. Five others followed on her heels including Brooke Hoag, Claire Schmaltz, Calista Richmond, Avelyn McCall and O'Neal with her first of the day. Evalyn Bellotti, Richmond and O'Neal each recorded an assist as well.
The team added five more in the second, this time with four different athletes scoring goals. O'Neal tallied a pair in the period while Nikki Hibler, Courtney Rhodes and Bellotti each got their first of the game. Richmond added two more assists for the game while Larson got her first. The period gave the team an 11-0 lead going into halftime.
O'Neal opened the second half with her fourth goal followed by three others to build up the lead to 15-0. Kara Harris, Emily McKinley and Paige Hull each added their first of the game. Richmond got her final assist, a team high of four, with Alyssa Lahutsky added another.
O'Neal scored her final goal in the fourth, the lone of the period, making the score 16-0 as a final.
Sienna Coventry made the first start of her career and earned her first win on the same day. She finished the day with nine saves in the contest on the way to the shutout.
Three members of the team led the way with four ground balls each including Margot Beacom, Sydney Weiss and Hibler. Weiss and Beacom both also came in with a team-high two caused turnovers. Danielle Gargiulo had three draw controls to lead the team.
The team ends the day with a 6-2 record following the win. They will host the College of Wooster for their next contest, scheduled for 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 30.
