ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team and men's tennis team will be in action in the Semifinal Round of their respective Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournaments on Wednesday, May 1.
The Thunder women's lacrosse team tied for second in the league standings and will travel to Kalamazoo College to compete against the Hornets at 7 p.m. On the other side of the bracket, Hope College will host Albion College on the same date and at 4:30 p.m.
All those wishing to attend must purchase a ticket online through the MIAA TICKETING PORTAL. General admission tickets for adults in $10 with $5 tickets for MIAA faculty and staff and non-MIAA students. Children under five and MIAA students are free. Trine University and the MIAA strongly suggests purchasing your tickets ahead of time and bringing either a digital or print copy of your ticket to the game. Trine enters play with a record of 11-5 and the team was 5-2 in conference play while Kalamazoo is 10-3 and 5-2. The regular season meeting between the Thunder and Hornets went to overtime, with Kalamazoo winning at home by a score of 14-13. Trine is led on offense by Calista Richmond. She is atop the league in points (87) and assists (47) and is ranked eighth in the league with 40 goals scored. The Thunder defense has allowed the fewest goals per game at 9.23 behind goalie Maddy Kasten. She leads the conference in save percentage (46.9%) and has the best goals against average (10.28).
The men's tennis team will travel to Calvin University to face the Knights in Semifinal action beginning at 4 p.m. at Strikwerda Tennis Center. In the other semifinal matchup, Kalamazoo College faces Hope College on the same date and time. Admission will be free for the MIAA Men's Tennis Tournament but space is limited at each venue. Trine enters the postseason after earning a share of their first ever MIAA Regular Season Title. They finished in a three-way tie atop the standings with a 6-1 record in conference play while going 14-4 overall. The team suffered to the league tiebreakers and will serve as the three-seed with Kalamazoo College as the top seed and Calvin in second. The Knights and Thunder met for their regular season match less than two weeks ago with Trine taking the dual 5-4. Caleb Morris was the hero of the day, coming back from near defeat in the No. 5 singles before winning the third set in a tiebreaker to secure the win.
