ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's wrestling team dismantled the visitors from Marian University Ancilla, sending them home with a 57-0 defeat. The shutout victory is the first in head coach Tom Hall's career.
The Thunder began the match with an 18 point lead, with the Chargers forced to forfeit three weights. Jakob Jones at 125, Isaac Hawkins at 149 and Philip Burney at 157 all earned victories without contest.
Six other members of the team secured victories by pin, each posting six more points to the team tally. Joseph Langeman at 133, Jett Boots at 141, Lakin Webb at 165, Andrew Williamson at 174, Jacob Saylor at 184 and Mason Custer at 197 each took their opponents to the mat for falls. Williamson had the quickest victory just 56 seconds into the contest, followed shortly by Saylor who finished at 58 seconds.
The final victory of the evening came at 285 where Kyler Bills was the lone member of the team to need all three periods. He finished with a 3-1 decision, with the low score downplaying his control of the match.
The Thunder improve to 2-3 in dual matches. They will next take the mats when they host Henry Ford College on Wednesday Jan. 17. That match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Hershey Hall.
