ANGOLA, Ind. -- The United Soccer Coaches has released their second regional rankings of the 2021 season and the Trine University women's soccer team found themselves among Region VIII ranked competitors for the first time in the program's NCAA history.
The 7-0-1 Thunder were tabbed as the seventh best team in the region. Washington (Mo.) University, University of Chicago and Calvin University were tabbed top-three in the poll.
Trine has found success both offensively and defensively throughout the first eight contests of the season. Offensively, freshman Teresa Ashbrook (Dewitt, Mich. / Dewitt) has wasted no time in becoming a national level threat. She currently leads the nation in total goals (11), total points (23) and game-winning goals (5).
Defensively the team has posted five shutout performances and has allowed just five goals so far. Junior Carmen Sweigard (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) has recorded four of those shutouts while in goal, freshman Sophie Aschemeier (Findlay, Ohio / Liberty-Benton) recorded the latest in her first career start.
The team will look to continue their unbeaten streak when they travel to face Manchester University today, Tuesday, Sept. 21. The contest is set to start at 4 p.m.
