HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced their end of year women's soccer awards. Four members of the Thunder were selected to All-MIAA teams and Andrea Wright received the Senior Sportswoman of the Year Award.
Wright is the first members of the Trine University women's soccer program to take home the sportswoman award, which was first awarded following the 2019 season. The honor recognizes a senior student-athlete who values competition, education, service and who brings joy to the game.
Wright is a two-year captain for the Thunder and a Biochemistry/Pre-Med major who has accumulated a perfect 4.0 GPA while at Trine. She will be attending Medical School after graduation with plans to become a Pediatric Endocrinologist. She has played in 67 games (starting 64 of them) and has contributed 10 goals and three assists as a defender in her career.
"Not only has Andrea played a critical role in the team's growth and success since her freshman year, but she has distinguished herself as a leader across the campus. She is one of the most active student-athletes I have met, a true servant-leader," praised head coach Gary Boughton, "She has been a key part in all of the Trine Women's Soccer team's successes, and for as talented and brilliant as she is, finds joy in her selflessness, which she plans to continue in her life's work."
Sophomore Teresa Ashbrook makes her second straight appearance as a member of the All-MIAA first-team. Ashbrook finished in a tie atop the MIAA stat boards with eight goals. She was second in points with 21 and tied for fourth with four assists. She led the team in both points and goals this season.
Sophomore Sophie Aschemeier took a step forward this season, after earning second-team honors a year ago, she makes her first appearance as a member of the All-MIAA first-team. During conference play Aschemeier finished second in goals allowed (3), goals against average (0.38), save percentage (.906) and wins (5). She finished fourth in saves made with 29 during her eight games.
The Thunder place two more student-athletes on the All-MIAA second team including senior Olivia Butterworth as a midfielder and junior Olivia Argentieri as a defender.
Butterworth was a force in the middle of the field both offensively and defensively. She finished the season fourth on the team with seven points including three goals and one assists. Argentieri finished the season with three assists. The pair of upperclassmen helped lead the defensive effort for the team. During MIAA play the team allowed just three goals and posted five shutouts, both second best among the conference teams.
