ALBION, Mich. -- The Trine University women's tennis team turned in a dominant performance as they shutout their hosts from Albion College winning the match 9-0.
The Thunder made short work of the doubles portion of the contest, winning all three matches handily. In both the No. 1 and No. 2 matches the team turned in 8-1 victories. Juniors Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Ellie Cole (Albion, Ind. / Central Noble) competed as the No. 1 duo while freshman Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and senior Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) took on the No. 2 duo. In No. 3 doubles the team of senior Trista Savage (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) and sophomore Eva Morales (Elkhart, Ind. / Elkhart Memorial) won 8-2.
The wins kept coming in the singles portion of the match as five members of the team finished the 2-0. Spirrison and junior Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) bookend the singles matches with 6-0, 6-0 wins in the No. 1 and No. 6 matches respectively. Cole just missed out on a sweep in the No. 4 match with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Davis won at No. 2 with scores of 6-1, 6-4 and Savage took the No. 5 match 6-2, 6-0.
The closest match of the day came at No. 3 where Morales needed a super tiebreaker to come away with the win 4-6, 6-4, 10-4.
The Thunder improve to 8-1 overall following the victory. They will travel to face Anderson (Ind.) University on Friday, March 26 for a 2 p.m. match.
