ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team came up with a historic victory over Saint Mary's College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual match. The 5-4 victory is the program's first recorded victory over the Belles.
To start the match the Thunder came away with two wins in the doubles portion of the contest. Freshman Jadyn Davis (Angola, Ind. / Angola) and junior Camille Lozier (Elkhart, Ind. / Concord) took the No. 2 match by the score of 8-6 while seniors Andrea Jordan (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) and Trista Savage (Bryan, Ohio / Bryan) came up with a win in the No. 3 match by the score of 8-7 (8-6).
Junior Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) started the singles portion of the contest strong with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 match. Davis became one of two Thunder to go undefeated in the match with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win in the No. 2 match. Savage was the other undefeated member coming up with a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the No. 5 match.
The team improves to 12-2 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play following the victory. They will take the courts again tomorrow, Sunday, April 11 when they host Kalamazoo College for a 1 p.m. contest.
