NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. – The Trine University women's tennis team swept their hosts from Manchester University to improve to 2-0 early in the season.
Sophomore Emilee Bassett and freshman Haley Straub got the team started in the No. 2 doubles match where they won by the lopsided score of 8-0. Following close behind, in the No. 3 match, juniors Kennedy Outwater and Lizzie Welker won by the score of 8-1. Finally, the No. 1 team of sophomores Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney won the closest of the matches at 8-3.
Welker and Outwater each needed the minimum amount of time to win their singles matches, both taking the No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively, 6-0, 6-0. Locane needed just one extra game to take the No. 1 match 6-0, 6-1. Bassett in the No. 2 match and Straub in the No. 4 match each won 6-0, 6-2 with Maloney finishing up the day with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the No. 3 match.
The Thunder will return to action on Saturday, September 9 when they travel to participate in a pair of dual matches hosted by Franklin College. They will start the day against Franklin at 10 a.m. before taking on Webster University at 1:30 p.m.
