HOLLAND, Mich. – A delegation of Trine University women's tennis student-athletes competed at the 2023 Hope College Invite this past weekend.
Junior Kennedy Outwater had the best weekend for the team. After dropping her first match of the C Draw she responded with a pair of wins to reach the consolation semifinals. She won with scores of 8-2 and 8-2 in her two wins, then lost 6-8 in the semifinals.
Also picking up wins for the team were Alexis Maloney and Haley Straub in the B Draw and Alisha Hunt and Lillian Trinh in the C Draw. Maloney won her second match 8-3 before being eliminated while Straub won her first match 8-6. Hunt won her second match 8-6 while Trinh won her first 8-2.
Also competing for the team on the day were Emilee Bassett, Elina Locane and Carissa Kulpa.
The Thunder also competed during the doubles portion of the contest with the team of Bassett and Straub coming closest to a win. They went to a tiebreaker in their second match of the day before falling 7-8 (5-7).
Individuals from the team will head to St. Louis, Mo. this weekend to compete in the ITA Regional Championships. The event, which is hosted by Washington University, is set to begin on Friday, September 22.
