ORLANDO, Fla. – The Trine University women's tennis team began the second half of their season with a pair of wins, sweeping their first day of spring break competition.

The team opened the day facing off with King's College and didn't surrender a match in the 9-0 victory. The day began with doubles but only two of the three matches were contested. Elina Locane and Alexis Maloney won the No. 1 match by the score of 8-2 with Emilee Bassett and Haley Straub taking the No. 2 match 8-5.

The Thunder continued by winning the five contested singles matches, beginning with Kennedy Outwater winning the No. 5 match in straight points, 6-0, 6-0. Maloney followed close behind in the No. 3 match with a 6-0, 6-1 victory. Straub with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Bassett with a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 were the next pair to finish. Locane won the closest contested match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles.

Trine finished the day with a second dual, this time against Baldwin Wallace University. The match was a barnburner with four singles matches going to super tiebreakers. The Thunder still came out on top with a 6-3 victory.

The team swept the doubles portion of the match, building a crucial 3-0 lead. Locane and Maloney won the No. 1 match 8-5, with Bassett and Straub taking No. 2 by the score of 8-2. Outwater along with Lizzie Welker won their first doubles match of the day by the score of 8-3.

The team's split the singles matches with the Thunder securing the 6-3 victory. Bassett won in two sets with scores of 6-3, 6-1, the lone member of the team to win a match without a tiebreaker. Straub won her tiebreaker 10-7 after splitting the first two sets both with the score 6-4. Outwater finished the off the win with a 7-5, 5-7, 10-5 victory in the No. 5 match.

Trine finishes the day with a 5-2 overall record. They will continue their season at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5 when they match up against Cornerstone University.
