HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Emilee Bassett of the Trine University women's tennis team has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week after helping the Thunder to a pair of wins.
It is the second time a member of the team has earned the weekly award and the first time in her career for Bassett.
The Bryan, Ohio native went 4-0 during the week, with two wins in each doubles and singles matches. She opened the week with two of the five team points in a 5-4 victory over Anderson (Ind.) University. Along with Haley Straub, she took the No. 2 doubles match 8-2, before winning 6-1, 6-2 in singles. The sophomore then took two more points in a 9-0 victory over The University of Olivet to open MIAA play.
The Thunder improved to 9-4 overall this week. They will continue MIAA play on Wednesday, March 27 when they host Hope College. That match is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
