GREENCASTLE, IND. -- The Trine University women's outdoor track and field team placed third out of four teams at the DePauw (Ind.) University Invitational this afternoon in Greencastle, Ind.
Trine had a team score of 150 points to finish in third place. Host school DePauw won the meet with a team total of 190.5 points and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology was second with 151.5 points.
The Thunder shined in the field events with three event winners, including one multi-event winner in junior Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern). Obear won both the shot put (36' 0.75") and the hammer throw (171' 3.00"). Obear also placed in the top-three in the discus with a throw of 112' 0.00" which was good enough to put her third overall.
The other event win was turned in by freshman Haley Livingston (Fort Worth, Texas/Everman) in the long jump following a leap of 16' 10.75".
Sophomore Madelyn Summers (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) competed alongside Obear in both the shot put and hammer events and finished as the runner up in both with marks of 35' 7.75" in the shot put and 132' 11.00" in the hammer.
Sophomore Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) was the runner-up in the high jump after clearing the bar at 4' 8.25" and junior Autumn Presley (Pleasant Lake, Ind./Angola) rounded out the top finishes with a third-place showing in the pole vault thanks to a best attempt of 9' 10.00".
On the track, Trine had a pair of winners in freshman Kennedi Sternberg (Kouts, Ind./Kouts) and junior Chloe Brittain (Breckenridge, Mich./Breckenridge). Sternberg took top honors in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.54 seconds and Brittain crossed the finish line in a winning time of 4:50.32 in the 1500-meter run.
Trine is scheduled to compete in the three-day Gina Relays hosted by Hillsdale (Mich.) College on Apr. 22-24 in Hillsdale, Mich. The first day of competition is set to start at 6 p.m.
