SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Multiple school records were lowered on Saturday for the Trine University women's track and field team at the Steemer Showcase hosted by Wittenberg University.
Haley Livingston [Fort Worth, Texas / Everman] took part in three events and broke her own school records in all three. Livingston won the long jump with a new personal best score of 5.46 meters (17' 11"), placed second in the 60-meter hurdles and took a full tenth of a second of her previous record time with a 9.04 second run, and was fourth in the 60-meter dash at 8.04 seconds to tie her best mark, with a 7.98 second record-breaking run in the prelims.
In her return to competition, Evie Miller [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] topped her own school record with a 4:50.76 race-winning time in the mile run. Miller took nearly three seconds off her previous best time.
Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] also brought home an event win in the weight throw with a score of 18.27 meters (59' 11"). This mark is just off the existing school record by two-tenths of a meter and is her personal-best.
The pair of Carol Haldeman [Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield] and Lydia Randolph [Jefferson, Ohio / Edgewood Senior] were 2-3 in the 5,000-meter run, both of them posting career-best times. Haldeman ran an 18:05.52 and Randolph in her shadow at 18:10.35.
Fifth-place finishes were recorded by Autumn Presley [Pleasant Lake, Ind. / Angola] in the pole vault and Marissa Kenney [South Bend, Ind. / J.W. Riley] in the 800-meter run. Presley just missed a new school record in the event at 3.07 meters (10' 0.75"). Kenney achieved the best time of the season in the 800-meter run at 2:25.27.
In the shot put, Madelyn Summers [Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble] placed sixth with a throw of 11.41 meters (37' 5.25") and a seventh-place finish was credited to Kennedi Sternberg [Kouts, Ind. / Kouts] in the200-meter run (26.98 seconds).
Next weekend, Trine track and field will compete in the Windy City Rumble hosted by the University of Chicago on Saturday, February 5.
