ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Trine University women's track and field team sent several distance competitors to the Big Meet Friday at Grand Valley State University.
Like the name indicates, the Big Meet is one of the largest indoor track and field competitions in the country, with competitors from 156 schools at all three levels of NCAA and other associations taking part.
Senior Evie Miller [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] had the third fastest time in the 3000-meter run at 9:32.61 in the number one heat and main event race of the day. Miller took 11 seconds off of her own school record time in the event and posted the 10th fastest 3k time in NCAA DIII history.
The Thunder also had four women in 5000-meter heats. Sophomore Carol Haldeman [Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield] was 11th in heat four with a time of 18:19.58. Freshman Lydia Randolph [Jefferson, Ohio / Edgewood Senior] was also in heat four. She placed 18th at 18:35.14.
Junior Alli Smith [Temperance, Mich. / Temperance Bedford] competed in heat five. She finished 23rd with a time of 18:55.98.
In heat six, freshman Chloe Goodrich [Burlington, Ind. / Carroll] was able to set a baseline personal record time of 19:02.82, good for 15th.
The rest of the Trine track and field team will be in action on Saturday, February 12 in the University of Indianapolis Team Invitational.
