NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Trine University women's track and field team is ranked 15th in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index. The Thunder are the top-rated team in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), with Calvin University right on their heels in 19th.
Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] collected MIAA Field Athlete of the Week honors following her new personal best throw at the University of Indianapolis last weekend. Obear scored 18.36 meters (60' 3.0") in the weight throw and is closing in on the school record in the event.
At Grand Valley State University, Evie Miller [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] turned in the 10th fastest 3000-meter time in NCAA DIII history. She broke her own school record in the event with a time of 9:32.61. Sophomore Carol Haldeman [Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield] and freshman Lydia Randolph [Jefferson, Ohio / Edgewood Senior] were top Thunder performers in the 5000-meter run at the Big Meet Friday at GVSU.
This weekend, Trine sends competitors to the University of Notre Dame and Hillsdale College in final preparations for the conference championship meet. Both of those meets take place on Saturday, February 19.
