NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Trine University track and field program had a pair of team members named to the 2022 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Regional Awards.
Evie Miller [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] has been tabbed the Women's Track Athlete of the Year for the Great Lakes Region. The senior also won the award for the indoor season. Miller is ranked top-five in both the 3000-meter steeplechase (10:06.26) and 5000-meter run (16:26.99). Her time in the steeplechase from the Indiana Invitational is the fastest time in NCAA DIII this year and the second-fastest mark in NCAA DIII history. Miller is undefeated against NCAA DIII competition in everything above 1500 meters and secured titles in the 10,000-meter run and 1500-meter run at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Men's Assistant Track Coach Seth Ware repeated his performance from the indoor season by going back-to-back on the Men's Assistant Coach of the Year in the Great Lakes Region. Ware, in his fourth year as assistant coach at Trine, coached the sprinters and hurdlers to combine for 89 of the Thunder's 228 points in winning the team title at the MIAA Outdoor Championships. His top pupil, Jake Gladieux [Oregon, Ohio / Whitmer], swept the 110- and 400-meter hurdle titles and ranked number one in the region in both events.
