ATLANTA, Ga. & CEDARVILLE, Ohio – On Saturday, the Trine University women's track and field team wrapped up competition in the Thrills in the Hills Open at Emory University and some were also in action at the Yellow Jacket Outdoor Open at Cedarville University.
THRILLS IN THE HILLS OPEN RECAP:
Out of the 20 collegiate teams at Emory, the Thunder placed 10th overall after two days of events.
Three student-athletes scored points in two events on Saturday. In the 100-meter hurdles, Brynn Mericle qualified for the event finals with a time of 15.93 seconds and placed sixth overall after running a 16.26-second final. The shot put saw Madelyn Summers and Chloe Bard secure podium finishes. Summers was seventh at 11.83 meters (38' 9.75") while Bard was right behind her in eighth at 11.70 meters (38' 4.75").
Other top finishes on the day included a 12th-place spot for Ana Parker in the 1500-meter run at 5:07.20, Marissa Kenney, who was 16th in the 800-meter run at 2:25.43 and 22nd-place finish for Adrianne Jackson in the 400-meter run. Jackson finished with a time of 1:03.66.
In relay team events, Mackenzie Miller, Emma Forker, Malena Ricks and Brynn Mericle were 10th in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.72 seconds. The team of Kristin Baker, Emily Wahl, Brynn Mericle and Adrianne Jackson went 4:29.99 in the 4x400-meter relay, good for 12th.
YELLOW JACKET OUTDOOR OPEN RECAP:
Without a majority of their team, the women tied for 18th out of 21 collegiate teams at Cedarville on Saturday.
Katie Berlew was the top finisher in multiple events for Trine on the day. She had the best score of the team with a sixth-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase (13:49.40) and had the best javelin throw for the team in 12th (25.04 meters / 82' 2.00").
Other top scorers for the Thunder in field events includes Abby Sanner, who was 11th in the discus (37.20 meters / 122' 0.00") and 12th in the shot put (10.79 meters / 35' 5.00") as well as Morgan Moslow, who was 14th in the pole vault (3.00 meters / 9' 10.00").
The 400-meter run featured Anissa Rios, who placed 22nd overall with a time of 1:08.15.
The Spartan Invite at Michigan State University is next on the schedule for Trine track and field. That event kicks off on Friday, March 31.
