ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's track and field team was in action on Friday evening at the Mrs. G Alumni Invitational, a home event for the Thunder inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC).
Trine had five event wins on the women's side, three of them coming from Mackenzie Miller. Miller was triumphant in the long jump (5.20 meters / 17' 0.25"), 200-meter dash (26.40 seconds) and 60-meter dash (8.01 second time in the finals). Miller led a convoy of Thunder student-athletes that went one through six in the 60-meter event.
Along with the performances by Miller, Hannah Parker won the mile run with a time of 5:21.50. Right behind her was Sidney Swick to sweep the top two positions at 5:23.12. Swick was also sixth in the 3000-meter run, the best time by a Trine runner. The final event win came in the 4x400-meter relay. The team of Adrianne Jackson, Kristin Baker, Brynn Mericle and Anissa Rios were at the top of the podium with a time of 4:17.60.
In field events, Isabel Ferguson had a second-place finish in the triple jump (9.90 meters / 32' 5.75") and was third in the high jump (1.51 meters / 4' 11.50"). In the pole vault, Avery Boyce was third as well by reaching a height of 3.10 meters (10' 2.00"). A trio of runners were third in their races, including Mericle in the 60-meter hurdles (9.62 second time in the finals), Baker in the 400-meter dash (1:02.43) and Bailey Puckett in the 800-meter run (2:22.37).
Macy Bonifield was 12th in both throwing events, the shot put (9.23 meters / 30' 3.50") and the weight throw (11.57 meters / 37' 11.50") to pace the team.
The Thunder will send student-athletes to Oberlin College for the Crimson & Gold Invitational on Friday, February 9 for the team's next event.
