GREENCASTLE, Ind. – At the Indiana DIII Championships, the Trine University women's track and field team brought home a second-place team finish. The Thunder had 192 points, but the hosts DePauw University were the champions with 248 points collected.
A new school record was set by Isabel Ferguson in the high jump at 1.56 meters (5' 1.25") to claim one of four event wins for Trine on the day. The long jump was won by Mackenzie Miller at 5.25 meters (17' 2.75") as well as the 100-meter dash (12.40 seconds). Miller was also second in the 200-meter dash at 25.90 seconds and was a part of the event champion 4x100-meter relay team. Her teammates were Aniyah Small, Emma Forker and Kaleigh Maschino and the team finished with a time of 49.27 seconds. In the 4x400-meter relay, Adrianne Jackson, Kristin Baker, Brynn Mericle and Anissa Rios were second at 4:09.74.
The duo of Mericle and Baker were the top Thunder finishers in each of the hurdle events. Both were third overall and Mericle ran a 15.76-second 100-meter hurdle time and Baker a 1:08.07 time in the 400-meter hurdles. In the pole vault, Avery Boyce was second by reaching a height of 3.21 meters (10' 6.25"). The javelin saw Malena Ricks throw for 35.26 meters (115' 8.00") to score a second-place finish. Abby Sanner led Trine in the shot put (11.40 meters / 37' 5.00"), hammer throw (38.69 meters / 126' 11.00") and discus (33.73 meters / 110' 8.00") to score two fourth-place finishes and a fifth.
Rios and Bailey Puckett secured second-place finishes in their running events. Rios ran a 1:03.07 in the 400-meter dash while Puckett completed the 1500-meter run in 4:43.78. Chloe Goodrich was third overall in the 5000-meter run at 19:21.40 while Brianna Medcalf was fourth in the 800-meter run at 2:20.28.
