HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Sophomore Brynn Mericle of the Trine University women's track and field team was named Women's Track Athlete of the Week by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). It is her first career Athlete of the Week honor.
Mericle, a native of Jackson, Michigan, competed for the Thunder at the Alumni Legacy Meet at Concordia University-Ann Arbor last weekend. She secured top-five finishes in both the 100- and 400-meter hurdle events.
The sophomore set a new personal-best time of 15.36 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to place third overall. The time was the quickest set by an NCAA DIII student-athlete in attendance at the meet. Her mark was good enough for eighth in the Great Lakes Region. In the 400-meter hurdles, Mericle was fourth at 1:09.79.
The MIAA Championships begin on Thursday, May 2 at Calvin University and a team champion will be crowned on Friday, May 3.
