MILWAUKEE, WIS. -- The Trine University triathlon team traveled to Milwaukee, Wis. on Saturday to compete in the Milwaukee School of Engineering Splash N' Dash and finished first of three teams at the abbreviated event.
The race consisted of an 825 yard swim and a 5k run. The Thunder finished with an overall cumulative time of 1:45:17 to earn top honors. Host school MSOE finished second with a time of 1:55:46 and Concordia University Wisconsin rounded out the field with an overall time of 2:04:07.
Individually, Trine captured the top-two spots with freshman Alli Smith (Temperance, Mich./Bedford Senior) posting the top overall time of 32:26 after completing the swim portion in 10:40 and followed with a 21:27 mark in the run. Fellow freshman Amira Faultkner (Bellbrook, Ohio/Bellbrook) was second with times of 11:03 in the swim and 22:14 in the 5k.
Junior Tori Klingsmith (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and sophomore Kyra Warren (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) finished back-to-back to claim fifth and sixth places. Klingsmith swam a time of 15:00 and followed with a mark of 23:45 in the run to finish with an overall event time of 39:04. Warren finished just behind Klingsmith in the swim portion at 15:01 and then ran a time of 23:37 in the 5k to finish with a combined time of 39:13.
Freshman Samantha Weaver (Stevensville, Mich./Lakeshore) also finished in the top-10 in eighth place with an event time of 39:40. Weaver began the day with a time of 11:14 in the water and then completed the 5k course in a time of 27:56.
Sophomore Rachel Jones (Indianapolis, Ind./Plainfield) was next to cross the finish line for the Thunder after completing the race with marks of 12:20 (swim) and 28:57 (run) to place 10th overall with a cumulative time of 41:46.
Freshman Cameron Hoellrich (New Bavaria, Ohio/Holgate) rounded out the field for Trine and finished 13th with an overall cumulative time of 43:25. She posted a mark of 15:00 in the swim and then a time of 27:56 in the 5k.
The next race on the schedule for the Thunder will be the East Regional Qualifier on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Smith Mountain Lake, Va. The Division III race is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
