ANGOLA, Ind. -- Senior Lindsey DeCamp (New Haven, Ind. / New Haven) record five service aces to become the Trine University women's volleyball NCAA Division III career record holder as the Thunder came away with a 3-0 win over Adrian College.
The Thunder started strong in the very first set building an 8-3 lead, but the Bulldogs roared back to tie the stanza at eight. The teams traded points through the rest of the set, with a final tie coming at 20-20. From there Trine took five of seven points to win the set 25-22.
The Thunder dominated the second set from start to finish. Freshman Kailee Cornell (Lafayette, Ind. / McCutcheon) highlighted the early moments of the set serving up aces on the first two points while ultimately giving the team an early 5-0 lead. The team continued to build their lead and at 13-7, DeCamp came to the line, her second ace of the game gave her the record, but during this time up she would serve three aces as the team built their lead to 17-7. They ultimately took the set 25-15.
The third set was closer to start but once again Trine led from start to finish. The seemingly put the match away when they built the lead to 20-12, but the Bulldogs pulled back within two at 22-20 before Trine took the final points of the contest to win 25-22.
DeCamp led the Thunder with five aces and 13 digs in the contest. Sophomore Joslynn Battle (Lowell, Mich. / Lowell) came up with 26 assists to lead the team while also turning in 11 digs.
Senior Madison Munger (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central) led a balanced offensive attack for Trine with 11 kills in the contest. Freshman Hannah Sands (Jonesville, Mich. / Jonesville) and senior Sarah Toles (Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble) both came in second with eight kills in the contest. Sands led the way with a .438 hitting percentage while sophomore Breanna Small (Indianapolis, Ind. / Beech Grove) came in second with a . 357 hitting percentage while finishing with six kills.
The Thunder improve to 4-0 on the season. They will next take the court when they travel to face Bluffton University on Tuesday, Oct. 13. The doubleheader of matches is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
