HOLLAND, Mich. – The Trine University women's cross country team competed in Holland, Michigan on Saturday in the Great Lakes Regional event, with a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships next week on the line. At the end of the 6K event, the Thunder secured a sixth-place finish as a team.

John Carroll University was the team champion and earned the Great Lakes region automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships. The rest of the field will be determined tomorrow afternoon at 3 pm. Calvin University, Hope College, the University of Mount Union and Ohio Northern University placed ahead of Trine, however the team entered the weekend ranked 24th in the nation. Finishing ahead of Centre College, who was also ranked in the top-35 in the country, might help their case to qualify as a team.

Trine was led by Carol Haldeman, who completed the event with a time of 21:59.7. That was good for 16th place overall and gives her a chance to compete at the NCAA Championships as an individual should the Thunder not be selected as a team.

Next up for the women's team was Lydia Randolph. The sophomore was in 13th at the 4K check-in point, but dropped to a 33rd-place finish at 22:20.9. Ana Parker was just a few seconds back in 36th with a time of 22:28.8. It is the sophomore's best time of her career.

Haldeman and Randolph earned All-Region honors at the meet. Haldeman also won the award in 2021, while this is the first time Randolph has been tabbed All-Region.

In the 45th spot was Brianna Medcalf. Medcalf missed her previous best time by a couple of seconds at 22:39.8. The final scoring member for the Thunder was Chloe Brittain. Brittain was the 66th competitor to cross the finish line and finished with a time of 22:56.9.

The NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship selection show will take place on Sunday, November 13 at 3 pm on www.ncaa.com.
