FORT WAYNE, Ind. – In the 2023 season's first meet, the Trine University women's cross country team finished second overall at the Mastodon XC Opener at Purdue-Fort Wayne. The Thunder women had two inside the top ten en route to their runner-up finish, only behind the host school, Purdue-Fort Wayne.
Senior Lydia Randolph was the first of the Trine student-athletes to finish with a time of 18:59.5, good for fifth overall. Sophomore Eleanor Young took a nice step forward in her second collegiate season by scoring a tenth-place finish at 19:32.7. Junior Chloe Goodrich was just a few seconds back of Young in 12th (19:38.4).
I thought Lydia was aggressive up front and that's how she usually races, so it was good to see where her fitness is," Coach Raber stated. "I thought Eleanor had an amazing race, she has come a long way in one year and she has a ton of confidence. The whole second group of women ran with a lot of confidence so that was great to see."
Sophomore Bailey Puckett found herself 13th on the leaderboard at 19:52.2. Making her collegiate debut, freshman Annabel Stanley was 15th overall and set a time of 20:02.5 in the 5k. Sophomore Sidney Swick and junior Hannah Parker rounded out the scoring members for the team in 18th (20:11.4) and 19th (20:27.0).
Next up for Trine is the 2023 Auto Owners Spartan Invitational at Forest Akers Golf Club and hosted by Michigan State University. That race takes place in two weeks on Friday, September 15.
