COLUMBUS, OHIO -- The Trine University men's ACHA hockey was defeated by the University of Toledo by the score of 5-4.
The Thunder came out to an early lead scoring two unanswered goals in the opening minutes of the game. The Rockets responded with two of their own to the game heading into the first intermission.
The second stanza was all about Toledo, as they scored two goals to Trine's none. They took a 4-2 lead into the final period.
Similar to last night the Thunder made a comeback bid in the final period but came up just short. They scored two goals to the Rockets' one on the third to pull within one with five minutes remaining in the game. Two late penalties kept the Thunder effectively pressuring for a game-tying goal and would succumb to defeat 5-4.
Trine was mathematically eliminated from advancing to the semifinal earlier in the day when New Hampshire defeated pool A top seed Northern Arizona. The loss keeps both Toledo and Northern Arizona alive in pool play.
The Thunder will look to play spoiler tomorrow, March 11, when they complete their season against Northern Arizona. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 p.m.
