Football Releases 2024 Schedule

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University football team has unveiled its schedule for the upcoming 2024 season.

The Thunder will open the season with their first ever matchup with Christopher Newport University. The Captains will travel to Angola and the Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium for the meeting on Saturday, September 7 with a 1 p.m. kickoff. Last season CNU captured their first New Jersey Athletic Conference championship since joining the conference for football in 2015. The team lost to Randolph-Macon College in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Football Tournament, their first appearance in nine seasons.

Trine follows up the opener with a pair of contests against Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) teams. On Saturday, September 14, they will head to the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for a four the fourth straight season, with a 7 p.m. kickoff. The battle of engineering schools continues to excite with the first three meetings decided by two or less points. Currently the Rose-Hulman holds the series lead, 2-1, after winning in 2023 by the score of 30-28.

The final non-conference game of the season will come against Bluffton University on Saturday, September 21. That game is also set to be under the lights with a 7 p.m. start.

The Thunder finish off the season with a new expanded Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) schedule. Calvin University will take to the football field for the first time in school history, adding a seventh conference contest to the Trine schedule.

Trine will open MIAA play with a home contest against Albion College on Saturday, September 28 at 1 p.m. Last season the Thunder held off a late comeback by the Britons, finishing the day with a 35-28 victory. The following weekend, October 5, they will head to Hope College for their next contest. Despite Trine's 11-point lead late in the first half, the Flying Dutch took last years matchup with a final score of 38-28.

After a mid-October bye week, the Thunder host back-to-back games to finish off the month. The University of Olivet will come to town on Saturday, October 19 before the brand-new squad for Calvin will make the trip on October 26.

November begins with a trip to last year's MIAA champions from Alma College. The Scots finished undefeated during 2023 regular season before making their way all the way to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Football Tournament, including an upset victory over the University of Mount Union, then ranked second in the country.

On November 9, Trine returns home for the 2024 edition of the Border Brawl, with the team currently riding a five-game winning streak against Adrian College. Last season the Thunder trailed at the half but stormed back for a convincing 34-14 victory.

The regular season concludes with a trip to Kalamazoo College on Saturday, November 11. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
