HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – For the second straight week, senior guard Connor Jones has been named Athlete of the Week by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA). It is the third time this season jones has been selected as the conference's athlete of the week.
The Danville, Indiana native was key in two MIAA victories this week for the Trine University men's basketball team, who is all the way up to 16th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Thunder came from behind to beat Olivet College 62-57, with Jones scoring 15 of his 20 points in the second half alone. In Saturday's 77-73 win at Kalamazoo College, he led the way with a game-high 27 points on the afternoon.
In total, Jones averaged 23.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two conference victories. He is fifth out of eligible student-athletes in scoring at 16.5 points per game this season, second in assists per game at 3.8 and leads the MIAA in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.84).
Jones knocked down a free throw attempt with less than one minute remaining in the team's most recent game against Kalamazoo for his 500th career point. Jones has had 20 or more points in three of his last four games, including going for a career-high 44 points versus Hope two weeks ago.
Up next for the Trine men's basketball team is a matchup with the Alma College Scots on the road on Wednesday, January 18. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
