CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA -- Two members of the Trine University men's volleyball team have been named to the All-Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Teams for their efforts this season. Additionally, freshman Hunter Haas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Bishop Moeller) has been named the "Defensive Player of the Year."
Haas also garnered first-team All-MCVL honors and was joined by sophomore Parker Beale (Noblesville, Ind./Fishers) who earned second-team All-MCVL recognition.
Haas led the MCVL with 3.84 digs per set and has totaled 215 digs for the season. He recorded 10 or more digs in all but two matches this season with a season-high 43 digs in the first match against Fontbonne (Mo.) University in Feb. Haas' 3.84 d/s is also the best in NCAA Division III this year. Offensively, Haas is currently third on the team in assists with 43 (0.77 assists per set).
Beale earns his second All-MCVL award of his career. He was a first-team selection last year as a freshman. The 2020 "Rookie of the Year" led the team in kills during his sophomore campaign with 163 and averaged 2.96 kills per set. Beale has had nine matches of 10 or more kills so far with a season-high of 19 kills in the first match against Wittenberg (Ohio) University on Mar. 28. He also tallied 13 set assists and led the team in service aces with 14. Beale also finished among the team leaders in both digs (108) and blocks (23).
The Trine men's volleyball team qualified for its first MCVL Tournament that begins today (Friday, Apr. 9) with the Thunder taking on Fontbonne in a matchup that is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in St. Louis, Mo.
