OBERLIN, Ohio – The Trine University men's cross country team competed in the Buckeye state on Saturday morning in the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble. The Thunder placed sixth in a loaded field of 32 schools from across the midwest.
Carnegie Mellon University was the team champion of the event and Manchester University's Enrique Salazar was the individual champion of the 8K invite race.
Trine was led by 14th place finisher senior Noah Acker. Acker completed the event with a time of 25:36.4, just four seconds off of his career best. Junior Zachary Brickler was in tow with a 35th place scoring spot. Brickler had a time of 26:00.2, a new career-best.
Sophomores Joseph Packard and Eli Lantz were the next to finish for Trine. Packard went 26:13.6 for a 48th place finish in the race, just missing his best time set at the team's last event, the NCAA DIII Pre-National Championship. Lantz secured a 61st place finishing position with a time of 26:23.5, a new career-best time. Packard scored 46 points and Lantz 57.
The final scoring member of the Thunder team was senior Holden Martin. Martin was 75th after picking up six positions in the homestretch of the race. He crossed the finish line at 26:36.7, a few seconds away from his career-best.
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships are next on the schedule for Trine cross country. The Thunder take the course at Alma College on Saturday, October 29.
