DEARBORN, Mich. - This past Saturday, two of Trine University's synchronized skating teams attended the second annual Chuck Cope Memorial Competition with the collegiate team bringing home the gold medal in their event.
The collegiate team competed on Saturday morning with calm confidence and power, reflective of the hard work they've put in over the last two months to prepare their program for this year's competition cycle. This season, collegiate skates to a medley of songs that portray the love story of Romeo and Juliet. With a total score of 82.89 and all positive GOES overall, this team has made an excellent start for the season. They even achieved a full level four call on their twizzle element and received all positive GOES on their group lift, a challenging new element the team is taking on for the first time this year.
After the competition ended, both collegiate and open collegiate participated in on-ice critiques, allowing them to hear feedback from the judging panel. Both teams received encouraging and helpful remarks and are ready to get back to work this week to improve their programs. The judges especially appreciated open collegiate's high energy connection to their Latin Carnival themed routine.
"I'm quite pleased with how both collegiate and open collegiate are progressing so far this season" noted Coach Franchock, "This group of skaters seems especially motivated to push themselves and each other to achieve more than they have in previous seasons. There is still a lot of work to do to clean up our programs and earn higher calls on our elements, but I think we are off to a strong start."
All three of The Thunder synchro teams will get the chance to compete on Saturday, November 18 at the Kalamazoo Kick-Off Synchronized Skating Competition, held at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo, Mich.
