ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team posted program record team event and total scores but fell to visiting Concordia University Wisconsin by the score of 249.080 to 242.175.
The score is a program record, surpassing the previous best by over ten points coming earlier this season. Included in that score was a new program best in the Team Event also shattering the previous mark by nearly ten points.
The team opened the day with a solid showing in the Compulsory Event. They would turn in a pair of over-nine scores during the middle of the event to finish just behind their opponents 33.20 to 31.40. The Thunder scored 9.25 in the pyramid heat and a 9.35 in the toss heat.
The Acro Event saw Trine post solid scores in all three heats, but the Falcons still would build on their lead winning the heat 26.50 to 25.40. The home squad turned in an 8.40 in the first heat, an 8.60 in the second heat and an 8.40 in the final heat during the event.
The first half of the match ended with the Thunder's best performance yet, as they went over nine in all three heats of the Pyramid Event. They would post 9.05s in the first two heats and then a 9.45 in the third heat. Despite the great heat the team was still outscored by the Falcons in the event (28.35 to 27.55) and would enter halftime down 88.05 to 84.35.
The team had a slight drop off in the Toss Event, but still were solid overall. Their best score came in the first heat where they posted an 8.20. They would drop the event 26.20 to 23.75.
Trine continued the trend of the day with another good showing in the Tumbling Event. During the quad pass the team tied the opposition with a 7.750 and then won their first heat of the day with a 7.525 to 7.300 win in the aerial pass. They finished off with an 8.375 in the open pass, finishing the event behind Concordia Wisconsin 45.850 to 43.275.
Despite all the success the team saved their best for last. They would win the Team Event with their program best 90.80 score, with the visitors posting an 88.98. It is the first time the team has broken 90 in the event in program history.
The Thunder fall to 2-4 following the loss which finishes their regular season.
