CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) has announced junior defensive specialist and libero Hunter Haas as the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. It is the fifth time in Haas' career that he has been selected for the award.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native was key on serve receive as the team split a tri-match with Wabash College (3-1) and Benedictine University (0-3). He had a combined 35 receptions with zero errors, including 22 against the Benedictine Eagles, who are receiving votes in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) NCAA Division III Coaches Poll.
Haas was the team leader in each of their first three matches of the 2023 season. He had 16 in the five-set loss to Marian University out of Wisconsin, 11 versus the Little Giants of Wabash and 10 at Benedictine. His 3.08 digs per set leads the MCVL.
The Thunder travel to Concordia University Wisconsin this weekend to compete in the CUW Invite. The first match will be against the host institution on Friday, February 3 at 8 p.m. EST and the following day, they take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders and the University of Santa Cruz Banana Slugs.
