HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced their 2023 end of year honors with the Trine University softball team heavily represented with six on All-MIAA first and second teams. Senior Anna Koeppl headlines the group by being named MIAA Pitcher of the Year.
Koeppl, who was also a part of the first team All-MIAA, was dominating in the circle during the regular season. She finished MIAA play allowing zero earned runs for a perfect 0.00 ERA, the best in the conference. She also finished top-ten in the conference with 30 strikeouts and 6.63 strikeouts per game.
Overall for the season Koeppl currently boasts the lowest earned run average with (0.41) and opponent's batting average (.152) in program history. Koeppl is a perfect 13-0 overall and 6-0 in MIAA regular season play 15 total appearances while being named MIAA pitcher of the week twice. This is the third time she has earned All-MIAA honors during her career.
Freshman Debbie Hill made her debut as a member of the All-MIAA first team after making her presence known both in the circle and at the plate. During conference play she posted one of the top-five lowest ERAs (0.73) while coming in fourth in strikeouts (35) and second in strikeouts per game (8.55). As a hitter Hill was top five in doubles (7), triples (2), home runs (3), runs batted in (23), total bases (38) and walks (9).
Graduate transfer Cassie Woods also makes her first appearance as a member of the All-MIAA first team. She boasts the highest batting average (.550) and on-base percentage (.684) among MIAA starters during conference games, while also finishing fourth in slugging percentage (.800). She was first in walks (13), second in runs scored (23) and fourth in doubles (6). Defensively she played most of the conference season in left field and holds a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Fellow transfer student Alexis Michon was selected as a second team All-MIAA member. She finished the MIAA portion of the regular season with the fourth best earned run average (0.56) while leading the league with three saves and 9.52 strikeouts per game. She is also fifth with 34 strikeouts. Overall for the season Michon leads the team with 90 strikeouts at a rate of 9.59 per game.
Senior Amanda Prather was named second team this season, the third time she has been selected All-MIAA. She finished the season top-ten among MIAA student athletes in doubles (5), triples (2), home runs (1), runners batted in (15) and walks (7). Defensively Prather was a menace at short stop finishing the season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
The final member of the Thunder to earn second team recognition was senior Ellie Trine, also making her third appearance on an All-MIAA team. She finished the MIAA portion of the season second with four triples, fourth with eight walks and sixth with 17 runs scored at the top of the batting order. Ellie Trine also turned in a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in center field.
All told the MIAA champion Thunder shared the most honorees with the runners-up from Calvin, both with six All-MIAA student-athletes. The Knights' took the other top award, with outfielder Hannah Biddlecome being named MIAA Position Player of the Year.
Trine finished the regular season 15-1 to capture their 12th MIAA Championship, the fourth straight season they have done so. They will host the MIAA Softball Tournament beginning later today, Thursday, May 11. The first game is set to start at 11 a.m.
