HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Sophomore Debbie Hill has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week after a fantastic week in the circle in the second half of the team's spring break trip.
This is the first time this season that Hill or any member of the Thunder has earned athlete of the week honors. This is the fifth time in her career she has earned the award.
The Thunder played eight games during their stretch in Florida which spanned the second half of their spring break. During that time Debbie made two starts while making five appearances total. She won two games and made saves in two others. She allowed seven hits and two runs while walking just one. She racked up a whopping 27 strikeouts for 12.33 strikeouts per seven innings.
Her best game came on Friday, March 8 when she recorded the 18th no-hitter in program history and the third in her young career. She pitched for five innings in the game allowing just one walk while striking out 12 as the Thunder won 10-0 over Alfred (N.Y.) University.
Trine is set to head to the Pioneer Classic for their next round of competition. They opened the event on Saturday, March 16 when they face off against Wartburg College at 10 a.m. and their hosts from Transylvania University at 12:15 p.m.
