HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Trine University women's lacrosse team had five representatives on All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Teams in the 2024 season, the most of any team in program history. Calista Richmond, Brooke Hoag and Maddy Kasten were First Team All-MIAA honorees while Alyssa Keptner and Evalyn Bellotti were recognized on the Second Team All-MIAA. The Thunder tied for second in the league standings with a record of 5-2 in the conference and 11-5 overall. They travel to Kalamazoo College in the MIAA Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday, May 1 at 7 p.m.
Richmond, a junior attack from Portage, Michigan, led the MIAA in points with 87 and assists with 47 en route to being selected as a First Team All-MIAA member for a third consecutive season. Among all of NCAA Division III, Richmond is ranked 19th in most assists. She was also the team's leading scorer with 40 goals, good for eighth in the conference. Richmond had multiple games throughout the season with four goals scored and had games with five assists three times on the year.
At the midfield position, Hoag secured her second postseason award from the conference as a First Team All-MIAA pick after being a Second Team All-MIAA player in 2022. The Portage, Michigan native had the most caused turnovers on the team with 39 and broke the school record for most in a game with eight in the season opener. Hoag has scored in all 16 games played and totaled 36 in the regular season. Hoag led the MIAA in free position success at 55.0% (11-of-20) and accumulated 60 draw controls and 32 ground balls.
After earning Second Team All-MIAA honors in 2023, Kasten has been named a 2024 First Team All-MIAA goalie in 2024. The Battle Creek, Michigan native led the MIAA in save percentage (.469) and goals against average (10.28). She holds a record of 10-5 in net and has made a total of 123 saves this season. Her four highest save totals came at home throughout the year, with a high of 14 coming against the College of Wooster. In four of the seven conference games, Kasten had a save percentage above 50%.
Keptner, a senior midfielder from Midland, Michigan, had a solid season to earn her first all-conference award as a Second Team All-MIAA honoree. Keptner did a little bit of everything for the team with 24 goals scored, 11 assists, 28 ground balls, 37 draw controls and 19 caused turnovers.
As a freshman defender, Bellotti, a native of Carmel, Indiana, was pivotal to a defense that led the MIAA in opponent scoring (9.25 opponent's goals per game). She forced eight opposing turnovers (seven in conference play) and helped the team clear the ball successfully.
