ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Trine University women's wrestling program hit the mats for the first time on Sunday, Nov. 15. Freshman Riley Morrison (Princeton, Texas / Princeton) was the lone competitor for the Thunder and finished the Adrian Women's Open with a fourth-place finish in the 116 weight class.
After a first-round loss, Morrison bounced back with an impressive first victory in the second round. She came up with a technical fall victory over one of the Bulldog representatives. The 10-0 victory was called at the 1:13 mark.
"I'm ecstatic that Riley got her first tech fall during her first collegiate competition," said head coach Amy Hildebrandt, "Throughout the day her technique was well above my expectations for the weekend. I am excited to see her continue to grow this season."
All told Morrison would finish with a 1-3 record on the day.
"The tournament was a great experience for Trine wrestling and I'm glad we got to see the areas we excel in and more importantly those we need to work on," continued Hildebrandt, "I can't wait for what's to come as Trine grows as a competitor in women's wrestling."
