SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – The Trine University women's cross country team secured a fifth-place team finish at the Great Lakes Regional on Saturday, with senior Evie Bultemeyer [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] winning the race as an individual. It is the second time Bultemeyer has won a Regional title in her career.
Bultemeyer concluded the 6K race with a time of 21:16.2, defeating second-place by 36 seconds. It is just a few ticks off her season-best time of 21:10.1 set at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Championships and good enough to qualify for the NCAA DIII National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky next weekend.
"Our women's team had an awesome race," Head Coach Zach Raber said after the race. "Evie led from the gun and cruised to her 2nd regional title. It really was a total team effort!"
Hope College, Calvin University and John Carroll University were one, two and three in the Great Lakes Region.
Other Trine scorers included Carol Haldeman [Syracuse, Ind. / Fairfield] in 29th spot with a time of 22:53.2. That is Haldeman's best time of her career as a sophomore. Chloe Brittain [Wheeler, Mich. / Breckenridge] was just behind Haldeman in 34th (22:55.5), her best time of the 2021 season. Both members were mentioned as All-Region for the first time.
Lydia Randolph [Jefferson, Ohio / Edgewood Senior] and Chloe Goodrich [Burlington, Ind. / Carroll] wrapped up the Thunder scoring members. Both individuals ran career-best times. The freshman Randolph was 56th at 23:25.3 and Goodrich finished 64th with a time of 23:35.5.
The Trine women's cross country team awaits their fate at a potential at-large bid to get to the NCAA DIII National Championship meet as a team. The NCAA Selection Show is Sunday, November 14 at 3 pm on ncaa.com.
