ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's basketball team climbed to 12th in the most recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, the highest ranking for the team in the 2023-24 season.
Hampden-Sydney College is the new team atop the national poll with a 10-1 record and 13 first-place votes. #2 Case Western Reserve University (8), #3 Guilford College (1), #5 Tufts University (1), #9 Trinity College in Texas (1) and #11 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (1) all received first-place votes. The Thunder have an identical 10-1 record as the number one team in NCAA DIII.
Trine notched their biggest win of the season last week versus the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, 80-68. The Pioneers entered play ranked 24th and currently sit 19th in the D3hoops.com Top 25 after defeating Calvin University. Senior guard Cortez Garland led the team in scoring with 15 points and was named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week.
Since the last poll, the Thunder are 3-1 after defeating Anderson University 79-76, dropping a game to #15 Elmhurst University 81-74 and securing wins over Berry College (88-76) and Platteville. During that four-game stretch, all five starters have averaged double figures in scoring. Fred Garland has been the catalyst in assists with an average of 4.5 per contest.
Trine begins conference play this week on the road at Kalamazoo College on Thursday, January 4. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
