ALLIANCE, Ohio --Chris Daley's goal with 36 seconds left lifted Mount Union to a 6-5 victory over Trine's men's lacrosse team Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.
Daley's goal broke a five-all tie after Jake Ahearn (Naperville, Ill./Naperville) had scored his second goal of the afternoon to knot the score. Ahearn scored both of his goals in the second half to pace the Thunder. Daley, Stephen Jones and Michael Taylor each scored two goals to account for all of the Purple Raiders' scoring. Trine falls to 0-6 on the season. Mount Union is 5-3 overall.
Paul Carlquist (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) got Trine on the board 2:13 into the game. Taylor answered with a goal to tie the score at 1-1 through a quarter.
Chris Ward (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) and Patrick Walker (Round Lake Park, Ill./Grayslake North) scored within 43 seconds of each other to open up a 3-1 lead in the second. Daley scored for Mount Union to cut the halftime score to 3-2.
Taylor tied the game with a goal for the Raiders in the first three minutes of the third quarter and Mount Union took a 5-3 lead on back-to-back goals from Jones at 10:49 and 4:26 left in the quarter. Ahearn scored for Trine right before the end of the period and it was 5-4 heading to the fourth.
Ahearn tied the game with a goal with 3:17 left in regulation before Daley scored the game-winner.
Trine returns to action Sunday, Mar. 30 when they take on Aurora in a neutral-site game at Notre Dame. Face-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
