LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Trine University sophomore Amy Newell turned in a strong performance in four games this week, breaking the MIAA single-season record for RBIs after her nine hits brought in 15 runs. The MIAA record was 31 while Newell has broken that with 37 RBIs on the season thus far.
Newell has only appeared in half of the games for Trine this season (18 total) after a torn ACL kept her from starting the season on time.
In 15 at-bats on the week, Newell recorded nine hits, nine runs, one double, one walk and four home runs to go along with the 15 RBIs. Her batting average for the week finished off at .600. One of her four home runs was a grand slam against Albion.
Newell’s performance this week helped Trine (33-3) climb to the No. 2 spot in the latest NFCA Division III Top 25 poll and finish their season with an undefeated 16-0 record in MIAA conference play.
